Today I wanted to quickly put together a note that I think that we all need to hear every so often. For some of us, I'm speaking of myself, sometimes that's a daily situation. When we think of all the things happening around us, we often find ourselves struggling to see what direction to go, what to do next, how to get from point A to point B. This is where that small voice comes in.
It's often very quiet. A whisper of a whisper. It's that little voice that quickly fades in then fades out and lets us know what we should do next. It's difficult, at times, to catch what it says. Most of the time it doesn't make sense. It feels like that voice is telling us to do something that's completely out of our comfort zone. Truthfully, if we were being broken honest with ourselves, if we were already following that voice, we'd be in a totally new comfort zone. It only seems uncomfortable because it's not what we're expecting to do, not where we're expecting to go, not what we'd think we're capable of doing. However, that small voice is speaking from the depths of who we are, the fabric from which we're made, telling us that we're not in a good place and it's time to go.
The small voice I'm referring to is the understanding and hope that there is, indeed, a next. That there's something else to do, someplace else to go, some other moment we have yet to experience. Though we don't know what it is, we'll never know if we stay exactly where we are. That voice, really, is the reminder to take a next step, big or small, regardless of where it lands. It's a voice that believes in us, and wants us to be the best that we can be.
So to all of you out there wondering about a next, let that small voice help get you there. Listen closely, listen intently, but more than anything else, listen with courage. I'll be the first to tell you that it's scary at times, but every time I've taken the step, it's led to a whole new understanding of what tomorrow can look like. From all of us at Challenge Accepted, here's to the small voice and supporting one another as we chase the whispers that thunder into tomorrow.
